Carol Fairlamb has been a voice coach for thirty years. She has worked in the West End including: Dr Semmelweiss with Mark Rylance, War Horse, and Othello with David Harewood and Toby Jones. She was Resident Voice Coach for Sydney Theatre Company and worked with Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Hugo Weaving.
She is often described by actors and directors as kind and nurturing, whilst also encouraging rigour, detail and specificity. She sees her role as a support for the director and creative team, to enable the best performances possible from the actors.
She was Head of Voice at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School for over a decade. Because of her extensive work with student actors she finds she can quickly access performances from untrained, or inexperienced actors, giving them the tools and the confidence to do their best work.
She is often sought after for her work on Shakespeare, believing that the language can provide the key to detailed and nuanced performance.
As a queer woman she also enjoys working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and has experience of working specifically with trans performers.
"Carol has helped me enormously with my developing voice work. She has superb exercises and insights always shared with encouragement and assurance that we are ourselves enough. Our natural voices, when exercised, and liberated from fear that we are not enough, are the most powerful tools for change that we possess. I recommend her joyous teaching unreservedly for actors for anyone." MARK RYLANCE
