Tim Charrington

Areas of Expertise: Voice, Accent, Dialect

Tim Charrington is an Accent and Dialect coach with over 25 years experience.
In fact he's spent most of his adult life in the theatre:from 1977-80 he trained on the acting course at Central school of Speech & Drama and for the next nine years worked as a professional actor.

In 1988 he returned to Central to train in Voice Studios. There he developed a keen interest in accents and wrote his final dissertation on the Accents of the British Isles.

Once qualified, Tim started work as a freelance Accent and Dialect coach in theatre, TV and film. His extensive theatre credits include productions for the West End, Old Vic, Donmar, Royal Court, Manchester Royal Exchange and West Yorkshire Playhouse. TV credits include '24' and 'John Adams'.

He has also taught at most of the leading London drama schools. Though specialising in Accents and Dialects, he taught Texts, Verse Speaking, Practical Voice, Audition Technique and Radio. He also directed scenes, monologues and presentations and has worked as a professional director.

Though teaching commitments made for few opportunities, he tried to keep acting whenever he could; not only for its own sake but to keep fresh the experience of performing in the belief that it helps a coach understand the processes and anxieties of the actors in his care and more willing to go the extra mile for them.
This year Tim has appeared in a No1 tour of 'Birdsong' and in poetry and prose presentations for the Voice Care Network.
