Jan Haydn Rowles
Areas of Expertise: Voice, Accent
Jan has worked as a voice and dialect coach for 20 years. She trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama and as a voice coach at Central School of Speech and Drama. During her early career she worked in most of London's leading Drama Schools. Jan now works extensively in Theatre, TV, Film and Radio.
Her work as a dialect coach has been seen and heard at The Almeida, Donmar Warehouse, The Royal Court, The Minerva Chocolate Factory, The Young Vic, Shared Experience, Manchester Royal Exchange, Birmingham Rep, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Salisbury Playhouse and The New Wolsey and in numerous west end theatre's including the Wyndhams and The Apollo. She has a long standing relationship with the RSC where she has coached over 20 productions. She is currently Head of Voice at Shakespeare's Globe (since 2007) where she has been the voice and dialect coach on over 30 productions and preparing the actors for the demands of the Globe Stage.
Jan works with, highly experienced actors wishing to extend their skills; newly trained actors needing to develop their skills; young actors under the age of 16; actors/performers preparing for castings and meetings for the american pilot season; entry into drama schools; casting and audition preparation; Jan coaches accents and dialects, voice, presentation skills, public speaking and acting/performance technique.
Jan's ground breaking book 'How To Do accents' co-written with Edda Sharpe was first published in 2007 (oberon Books) and the second edition in 2010.
